FreeMind- (click for detail)

Usability:
Features:
Collaboration:

Type:
Open Source

Technology:
Java based - available for Windows, Apple and Linux

Description:
A very powerful, feature rich mind mapping tool. It's hard to rationalize why you would pay for a mindmapping tool when this one is available. It provides all of the basics AND A LOT MORE, the usability is a little rough, but easy to pick up. The only real criticism I would have is the output is not as 'pretty' as some of the other tools.

MS Visio- (click for detail)

Usability:
Features:
Collaboration:

Type:
Commercial

Technology:
Windows desktop

Description:
A tired old application that still has many benefits, but has not been improved over time. Visio is a 'standard' and provided along with the higher end MS Office tools, but seems to have been ignored. If you have it, it'll work, if you want a good mind mapping (or graphics) tool - look elsewhere.
